BARGER ADVANCES TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE LONG JUMP

AUSTIN, Texas — Sacramento State junior Cory Barger punched his ticket to the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships after placing 11th in the long jump at the NCAA West Preliminary on Thursday.

Barger earned one of the 12 bids to the championships to Eugene, Ore. He winds gusting well above the legal 2.0 meters per second Barger opened with a leap of 24-01.00. He then uncorked a jump of 25-03.25 for his best before ending with a long jump of 24-09.00.

Senior Michael Turner finished 33rd in the long jump. The Big Sky champion had a best of 24-02.50 on both his first and third attempts.

Sacramento State also had two women competing in the 400-hurdles. Carly Schulz ran 1:02.32 to place 37th overall. No time was recorded for Cassidy Zurn who competed in the first heat.

The Hornets will be represented by four student-athletes on Friday. Candice Dominguez and Elizabeth Venzon will take part in the women's high jump. Andre Lindsey and Aric Walden will run in the men's 110-hurdles.

The trio of Darius Armstead, Jah Strange and Mohamed Abdullah will participate in the men's triple jump on Saturday.
