LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams concluded a three-meet weekend by taking part in the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Brutus Hamilton Open and Classic meets next weekend in Berkeley, Calif.
MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Aric Walden tied for eighth place in the 110-hurdles after running 14.53 for his fastest time of the season.
Freshman Alec Foster was ninth in the 400 in a career best 48.25. Foster's previous best time was 48.76 earlier this season at the Rainbow Relays.
Three Hornets set PRs in the 1500. Elijah Changco led the way by running 4:01.22 to place 69th overall. Aiden Schraer and Ryan Salcido ran 4:10.03 and 4:11.10, respectively, for the fastest outdoor times of their careers.
WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Cassidy Zurn followed her PR of 1:01.38 in the 400-hurdles on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays by running 1:01.53 to place ninth at the Beach Invitational. That finish was the highest by a Hornet woman in any event on Saturday.
Haley Heinemann and Emma Armstrong each set PRs in the 1500. Heinemann ran 4:43.97 just two days after posting the third fastest steeplechase in program history. Armstrong had a time of 4:58.68.
The Sacramento State women set career bests in the 800. Senior Joy Weems led the way by running 2:12.08 to place 28th. Jocelyn Orozco posted a mark of 2:14.44 while Denise Reis crossed the line in 2:14.81.
Amari Jones and Elizabeth Venzon set PRs in the 200. Jones was the top finisher on the team in 25.34 to place 60th in the meet. Venzon ran 25.86.
MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Jah Strange had the only PR of the day for the Sacramento State men in field evens. Strange jumped 22-00.25 to place 46th overall in the long jump.
Daniel Onuoha tied for 29th place in the high jump (6-02.75) for the highest finish on the team in a field event.
WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Sydney Pink tied her career best by clearing 5-05.00 to tie for 27th in the high jump. Her mark placed her even with teammate Julia Grimm.
Jelaia Jones placed 27th in the shot put to match the highest finish by a Hornet woman in a field event. Jones had a put of 45-07.25.
Other PRs came from Ivie Eboigbodin (16-10.50) in the long jump and Morgan Jones (45-03.00) in the shot put.
