DISTANCE RUNNERS START FULL WEEKEND AT BRYAN CLAY DISTANCE CARNIVAL

AZUSA, Calif. — Members of the Sacramento State track & field team started a busy weekend by participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational Distance Carnival on Thursday night at Azusa Pacific. In all five Hornets competed in the day with the rest of the team set to begin competition on Friday during the second day of the Bryan Clay as well as the Mt. SAC Relays. The Hornets will also compete at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State this weekend.

Haley Heinemann highlighted the action on Friday. Heinemann ran 10:52.55 in the steeplechase to move her into third place in school history. Her time was the best by a Hornet woman since 2008 and broke her previous PR of 10:58.38 by nearly six seconds.

The other four Sacramento State runners took part in the 5K. Emma Armstrong ran 17:59.32 to place 21st in the fifth heat of the women's event. Elijah Changco was 26th in the third heat for the men with a time of 15:07.43. Ryan Salcido and Sammy Scheuer were 15th and 23rd, respectively, in the fifth heat. Salcido ran 15:08.77 while Scheuer posted a time of 15:13.95.
