Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. – The doubles team of junior Ana Loaiza Esquivias and freshman Karina Vyrlan earned a win at No. 1 doubles but Arizona took the other two doubles matches and won three singles matches to clinch a 4-0 win on Saturday in Tucson.
The three other singles matches went unfinished, but Vyrlan was up a set at No. 2 against the No. 89 ranked singles played in the nation when the Wildcats clinched the win. Arizona remained undefeated at 3-0 while the loss dropped Sacramento State to 1-3.
Loaiza Esquivias and Vyrlan improved to 3-1 this season at the No. 1 doubles position, beating the duo of Lauren Marker and Samantha Czarniac, 6-3. The Wildcats won the other two doubles matches by 6-1 scores, however, to claim the first point of the match.
Facing Czarniak, ranked No. 89 in the ITA singles national rankings, at the No. 2 position, Vyrlan took the first set 6-4. Czarniak had a 3-2 lead in the second set when the match was concluded.
Marker, the No. 18 singles player in Div. I, handed Loaiza Esquivias her first loss of the season, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. That win secured the team victory for the Wildcats after a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 and a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3.
The Hornets remain in Tucson to face UTEP in a neutral site match Sunday morning.
