WOMEN’S TENNIS CLAIMS CAUSEWAY CLASH WITH 4-1 VICTORY OVER UC DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team heads into its regular season finale with four-straight victories under its belt following a 4-1 victory over Causeway rival UC Davis in the team's final non-conference dual of the year on Thursday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis, Calif.

The win was third in the last four meetings against the Aggies as the Hornets improved to 16-5 overall on the year. Having already claimed at least a share of the Big Sky Conference regular season title for the 11th time in school history, Sacramento State closes out the regular season on Saturday (April 18) against league rival Portland State at 12:30 p.m. with a chance to claim the outright championship and the top seed in next week's conference tournament.

Prior to the match, the Hornets' senior class will be honored as part of "Senior Day" festivities with fans invited to show up early for the celebration. Free pizza will be available to the first arriving fans.

Wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions staked Sacramento State to the early 1-0 lead in the match as Lou Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte were the first off with a 6-1 win. Cami Maldonado Gutierrez and Reese Walker then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.

Switching to singles, Maldonado Gutierrez and Palina Saulevich made quick work of their opponents at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Maldonado Gutierrez defeated Aileena Hu, 6-1, 6-1, while Saulevich topped Isabella Bringas, 6-3, 6-2.

UC Davis broke up the shutout with a three-set win at the No. 1 position, but Baudouin put an end to the Aggies' rally with a three-set, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5), win at No. 2 for the clinching point.

Baudoun claimed her 10th consecutive victory in moving to 16-2 overall on the season, moving to 6-1 on the year in three-set matches and clinching the winning point in singles for the third time this year. Maldonado Gutierrez won for the fourth straight time and improved to 16-5 in singles, while Saulevich also won her fourth straight and her 15th match overall.

In doubles, the Hornets clinched the doubles point for the ninth consecutive match, with the duo of Maldonado Gutierrez and Walker winning for the sixth straight match while moving to 11-1 as partners this season. That team clinched the doubles point for the third time in the team's last six duals and posted their team-best fourth clincher of the season.
