GREELEY, Colo. — Junior Candice Dominguez finished second in the women's high jump to earn all-Big Sky honors and lead the Sacramento State track and field teams during the third day of the Big Sky Championships.

Dominguez cleared 5-feet, 8-inches which surpassed her career best by a quarter-inch and equaled the best mark of the day. However, she finished second overall to Weber State's Desirae Cruse who was awarded first place based on jump attempts.

The Hornet women enter the final day of the meet in sixth place with 20 team points. Along with the eight points from Dominguez, Sacramento State picked up points in the long jump and discus.

Freshmen Nirie Boglino and Abby Taylor placed seventh and eighth in the long jump to combine for three points. Boglino finished with a best of 18-09.25 while Taylor had a leap of 18-07.75. In the discus, freshman Danielle Jackson finished in fifth place with a career best of 148-03.

The Hornet men picked up points in four events and currently sit in eighth place with 16 points. Cory Barger placed sixth and Billy Eng was eighth in the long jump. Barger jumped 23-06.00 and Eng finished with a best of 22-03.00.

In the shot put, Richard Casas was sixth after a put of 53-05.75 to earn three points.

The team also picked up a point in the final event of the day as Sammy Scheuer finished eighth in the 10K with a time of 32:21.07.

Along with the scorers, the Sacramento State women advanced eight athletes into event finals on Sunday. Seven of those finalists came in three events as the Hornets sent three in the 100-hurdles and two in the 800 and 400-hurdles.

Stephanie Blumm ran the second fastest time in the qualifying round of the 100-hurdles (13.88) and had the third best time in the 400-hurdles (1:00.78). She'll be joined in the final of the 100H by Kristen Robinson (14.05) and Olivia Leavitt (13.93), who ranked third and fifth, respectively. Carly Schulz also earned a spot in the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:02.00.

In the 800, Chloe Berlioux and Amanda Garcia each finished second in their respective heats to earn automatic bids to the final. Berlioux ran 2:10.85 while Garcia crossed in 2:11.02. Hannah Edwards and Ashley Kittle just missed out on moving on as the pair finished ninth and 10th, respectively.

The final qualifier for the women was Joy Weems who ran 56.22 in the 400.

The Hornet men earned four entries into the finals — all in the hurdles. Paul Lyons, Austin Tinsley and Casey Wheeler will occupy three of the eight lanes in the 110-hurdles. Lyons ran 14.15 for the second fastest time of the day. Tinsley posted a time of 14.27 to rank fourth and Wheeler was seventh in 14.57. Wheeler also advanced in the 400-hurdles after running 53.68.

The final day of the meet will start on Saturday at 9 am PT with the women's triple jump. Running events get under way at 11 am and conclude at 3 pm with the women's 4x400 relay.
