Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. – For the second consecutive day Sacramento State swept singles – winning every match in straight sets - and earned the doubles point in a 7-0 Big Sky victory Sunday morning at North Dakota.
Sacramento State (9-8, 5-1 Big Sky) was coming off a similar 7-0 whitewash of Northern Colorado on Saturday. North Dakota (3-14, 0-7 Big Sky) remained winless in league play.
The Hornets claimed the doubles point with a 6-2 win from senior Jennifer Ong and sophomore Ana Loaiza Esquivias at No. 1 and a 6-0 sweep at No. 3 from sophomores Emily McColl and Anna-Maria Nau. North Dakota did claim a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles but the point had already been clinched for the Hornets.
Nau improved to 6-0 in singles play this season and dropped just one game with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Mary Wessman at No. 6. Junior Andie Mouzes won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and the Hornets clinched the team win when junior Alina Soltanici defeated Lacey Sprinkel 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1.
Loaiza Esquivias and junior Deimante Bulatovaite both improved to 6-0 in Big Sky singles play on Sunday. Loaiza Esquivias defeated Faith Lee 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 and Bulatovaite beat Preethi Kaslingman 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4. Ong added a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 to complete the scoring.
The Hornets have two more road Big Sky matches next weekend at Montana and Montana State.
