Box Score GREELEY, Colo. - Sacramento State swept doubles and singles play, winning five singles matches in straight sets, in a commanding 7-0 win over Northern Colorado on Saturday in Greeley.
Sacramento State improved to 4-1 in Big Sky play and 8-8 overall with its first 7-0 shutout of the season. The loss dropped Northern Colorado to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the Big Sky.
The Hornets jumped on the Bears quickly, sweeping doubles while only dropping four total games. Senior Jennifer Ong and sophomore Ana Loaiza Esquivias earned a 6-1 win at No. 1 while juniors Deimante Bulatovaite and Alina Soltanici had a similar 6-1 victory at No. 2. A 6-2 Hornet win at No. 3 completed the sweep.
Ong was the first to finish in singles play, beating Beth Coton 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Soltanici cruised past Lea Krajcovicova 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 and the Hornets clinched the match win at No. 3 when Loaiza Esquivias beat Hillary Walters-West, 6-1, 6-4.
Loaiza Esquivias improved to 5-0 in Big Sky singles play as did Bulatovaite, who won 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Sophomore Anna-Maria Nau played in her first Big Sky singles match of the year and improved to 5-0 overall in singles this year with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Junior Andie Mouzes completed the Hornet sweep winning 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5.
Sacramento State plays another road Big Sky match on Sunday at North Dakota, with first serve scheduled for 7 a.m. Pacific time.
