SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women finished first and the men were second at the Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornet women scored 159 points and were followed by UNLV (151), UC Davis (109) and Portland State (96). The Aggie men finished first with 121 points while Sacramento State score 104 and Portland State tallied 44.

Four members of the Hornets' women's team finished first in individual events and the team also claimed a relay victory. Amanda Garcia led a sweep of the top three spots in the 800. Garcia ran a career best 2:08.88 and now ranks fifth in school history. The time also ranks as the fastest in the Big Sky this year. Hannah Edwards was second in 2:11.49 and Ashley Kittle placed third in 2:11.94.

Stephanie Blumm jumped to second in the Sacramento State record book and also posted the best time in the Big Sky this year in the 400-hurdles. Blumm ran 58.72 and now only trail's Natalie Day's time of 58.24 in 1985 in Hornet history. Prior to her performance, no Big Sky athlete had run under a minute. Blumm also anchored Sacramento State's 4x400 relay team and capped a come-from-behind win down the home stretch in 3:45.90.

Danielle Brandon and Jelaia Jones provided the other wins. Brandon cleared 12-11.50 to win the event by four inches. Brandon has now finished first in consecutive meet and has been in the top four in the pole vault in all four meets this season. Jones had a shot put of 44-11.50 to finish 1-foot, 11-inches ahead of teammate Tyra Lassair who finished second. That mark now ranks 10th in Hornet history.

Junior Joy Weems was second in the 400 and recorded the 10th fastest time in school history after running 55.76.

Candice Dominguez continued her climb up the school top 10 after clearing 5-07.25 in the high jump. Dominguez bettered her career best by a quarter-inch and now sits alone in fifth place in the school record book.

The Hornet men had four individual victories. On the track, Jacob Huston placed first in the 800 with a career best time of 1:54.28 during his first race in the distance this season. The senior's previous best was 1:57.31 set last year.

Senior Casey Wheeler was first in the 400-hurdles and second in the 110-hurdles. Wheeler ran 54.63 and fellow Hornet Austin Tinsley was second in the 400-hurdles after running 55.50. In the 110H, Wheeler crossed the line in 14.71 placing him just off the pace of UCD's Kyle Clancy (14.62).

Kyle Peterson and James Kinloch each finished first in a throwing event. Peterson shattered his PR in the shot put with a mark of 52-11.50. Prior to the meet, his best was 50-01.75. The redshirt freshman was also third in the discus (161-05) and fifth in the hammer (156-03). Kinloch won the hammer with a throw of 182-00. The senior was also second in the discus with a best of 166-06.

Sacramento State will not compete next weekend and will return to action the following weekend at three events. On April 15, the Hornets will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays. The team will also be entered in the Beach Invitational on April 16 in Long Beach, Calif.
