SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In a tightly contested match with a trio of three-set singles matches and two others that had a set go to a tiebreak, San Diego State was able to outlast Sacramento State for a 4-3 win on Saturday.

Sacramento State (4-4) got singles wins from junior Alina Soltanici and sophomores Ana Loaiza Esquivias and Anna-Maria Nau. The teams split the six singles matches but San Diego State (4-9) won two of the three doubles contests to earn the deciding point.

The Hornets got a doubles win at No. 2 from Soltanici and junior Deimante Bulatovaite, who beat SDSU's Taylor Lederman and Dora Somoracz, 6-2. The Aztecs took the No. 1 doubles match by a similar 6-2 scored and outlasted Nau and sophomore Emily McColl, 6-4, at No. 3.

Soltanici bounced back from a rare loss on Friday to get back in the win column at No. 1 singles, beating San Diego State's top player, Jana Buth, in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Loaiza Esquvias won in straight sets as well, topping Kennedy Davis 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3.

Nau, who made her 2016 season debut with a win on Friday at Long Beach State, was victorious again at No. 6 on Saturday with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Somoracz. After the Aztecs earned a straight set win at No. 2 Bulatovaite won the first set of her match at No. 4 and junior Andie Mouzes won the second set at No. 5 but the home team rallied for three set wins in both to clinch the match.

After opening the season with seven of its first eight matches on the road, Sacramento State will play four straight home matches over the next two and a half weeks. The homestand starts with a contest against No. 22 Fresno State next Saturday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m. at Rio Del Oro.
