Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Deimante Bulatovaite and sophomore Anna-Maria Nau won singles matches but it wasn't enough as the Hornets were defeated at Long Beach State, 5-2, on Friday.
Sacramento State (4-3) was playing its first match in nearly two weeks against a Long Beach State (6-2) team that was nationally ranked earlier this season. The Beach had nationally ranked singles and double players at both No. 1 positions on Friday.
The home team began the day with a sweep of doubles, led by a 6-2 win at No. 1 from the No. 55 doubles pairing or Laura Eales and Hayley Thompson. The Hornets were close in the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches but Long Beach State ended up winning both by 6-4 scores.
Eales began singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5. Hornet junior Alina Soltanici, who had won five straight singles matches at No. 1, was outlasted by No. 55 Maeva Razakasoa 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 before the home team clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2.
LBSU won in straight sets at No. 5 as well before the Hornets claimed the last two singles matches to finish. Nau was playing at No. 6 for the first time this season and scored a three set win over Georgie Sanders, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. Bulatovaite rallied for a three set win at No. 4 with a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-8 triumph over Thompson.
Sacramento State is back in action on Saturday playing at San Diego State at noon to conclude a six-match road swing.
