Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State won the doubles point and won five singles matches in straight sets in a dominant 6-1 home victory over Eastern Washington on Sunday at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
Sacramento State (6-5, 3-0 Big Sky) played its final home Big Sky match on Sunday, as the team's eight remaining league contests will all be played on the road. Eastern Washington (9-6, 3-3 Big Sky) started conference play 3-0 but has now dropped its last three league matches.
After battling for a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Idaho on Saturday, the Hornets commanded play throughout the match on Sunday. Senior Jennifer Ong and sophomore Ana Loaiza Esquivias earned a quick 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles before sophomores Emily McColl and Anna-Maria Nau won 6-4 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
Loaiza Esquivias dropped just one game in an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Rachel Swindell at No. 3 in the first completed singles match. Junior Andie Mouzes picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 and the Hornets clinched the match victory when junior Deimante Bulatovaite beat Erin Blessing 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4.
Junior Alina Soltanici got back in the win column with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 1 and Ong beat Moira Hedberg 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2. Eastern Washington's Faye Worrall picked up a point for her team with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 6.
The Hornets play their final home match of the regular season on Tuesday, hosting Saint Mary's at 1:00 p.m. at Rio Del Oro. Ong and graduating junior Saskia Angerer will be honored at their last home match as Hornets.
