SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Emilia Del Hoyo is in third place in the heptathlon and Max Jette is in fifth in the decathlon following the first day of competition at the Hornet Invitational on Friday.
Del Hoyo scored 2,869 points in her four events. She trails Kate Earle of the Humboldt Track Club for the lead after Earle tallied 3,011. Del Hoyo opened the day with a 100-hurdles time of 14.64 which led all competitors. Del Hoyo then cleared 5-01.25 for 689 points. The freshman had a shot put of 33-11.25 which again was the best of the day and concluded by running the 200 in 26.69.
In the decathlon, Jette opened by running the 100 in 11.68 and then long jumped 21-09.50. A shot put of 37-07.25 was followed by a successful high jump at 6-03.25. Jette ran 52.05 in the 400 to reach the halfway point of the decathlon with 3,464 points.
Friday also saw teams compete in the men's and women's hammer throw as well as a mixed 10K. James Kinloch had the best finish among the Hornets in the men's hammer throw. Kinloch had a toss of 184-09 to place fourth overall and second among collegiate athletes.
The meet continues on Saturday with the women's 5K at 9:45 a.m.
