BOZEMAN, Mont. — Candice Dominguez set the Sacramento State indoor record in the high jump and was one of five event winners for the Hornets at the MSU Quad on Friday night at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
The Hornet men with 2-1 in dual meets against Montana State, Montana and Eastern Washington. The team earned victories over the latter two while falling to host MSU. The Sacramento State women were 1-1-1 head-to-head with the other three teams. The Hornets were victorious against Montana, tied Montana State and lost to EWU.
Dominguez cleared 5-08.75 to finish first in the high jump. Her mark bettered her previous best by 1.5 inches and broke the school record of 5-08.00 which was set by Naima Goodwin in 2011. Teammate Elizabeth Venzon finished second in the event with a best of 5-07.00.
The women also received victories from Stephanie Blumm in the 60-hurdles and Abby Taylor in the long jump. Blumm ran in the final heat of the event and knew she had to better Jessica Chrisp's time of 8.81. The senior responded with a season best mark of 8.78 to earn the win. Blumm also finished second in the 60-meter dash with a career best of 7.80 which moved her into a tie for seventh place in school history. Her previous best of 7.92 came last season.
Taylor competed for the time at Sacramento State and won the long jump by five inches. The freshman had a vest of 18-09.25 and led a sweep of the three spots by Sacramento State. Kassandra Corrigan finished second at 18-04.25 and freshman Emilia Del Hoyo was third at 18-02.25.
The men also had wins in the 60-hurdles and long jump. Casey Wheeler led a sweep of the three spots in the 60-hurdles. The senior ran 8.40 and was followed by Max Jette (8.51) and Jonathon Perry (8.56). In the long jump, Cory Barger and Michael Turner finished 1-2. Barger leapt 23-04.50 and Turner came in at 23-01.25.
Turner and Bryan Cuellar also set PRs in the 60 to move up in the school record book. Turner ran 6.93 to finish third in the meet but his time now ranks eighth all-time at Sacramento State. Cuellar was fifth in the meet in 6.96 seconds and is now in 10th place in school history.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle on Feb. 12-13 and the UW Open on Feb. 14.
