TRACK & FIELD CLOSES REGULAR SEASON AT UW OPEN

SEATTLE — Twelve school top 10 marks and 19 top five finishes highlighted Sacramento State's performance at the UW Open on Sunday. The meet was the final competition for the Hornets before the Big Sky Indoor Championships in two weeks.

The Hornet men and women swept the top spot in the long jump. Cory Barger finished first in the men's competition with a best of 23-07.25. That mark placed him 10th in school history and was the second best in the Big Sky this season. Nirie Boglino led a sweep of the top three spots in the women's long jump by Sacramento State. Boglino's mark of 18-06.50 is the fourth best in the Big Sky this year. Abby Taylor (18-02.50) finished second and was followed by Elizabeth Venzon (17-09.50).

In the women's 800, Chloe Berlioux and Amanda Garcia each cracked the top 10 in Hornet history. Berlioux, who set the school record in the mile on Saturday, ran 2:10.73 and now ranks fourth in the Hornet record book. Her time is also the second best in the Big Sky this season. Garcia moved into fifth place at Sacramento State and is now third in the Big Sky with a time of 2:11.54.

Two other members of the women's team posted top-10 marks. Joy Weems is now ninth in the 400 after running 57.00. Hayley Ann Carbullido also improved on her career best in the pole vault after clearing 12-01.50. That height places her eighth in school history and is tied for the seventh best in the conference this season.

For the men, Aric Walden continued his comeback from a knee injury by running 8.15 to place second in the 60-hurdles. Walden's time is the fastest in the Big Sky in 2016 despite it being just his second race of the year.

Steven Pust placed fourth in the pole vault and is now third in the Hornet record book following a successful attempt at 16-08.00. David Bean moved into a tie for 10th place in school history after clearing 15-02.25.

In the weight throw, both James Kinloch and Kyle Peterson posted career bests. Kinloch's throw of 57-11.75 places him seventh in school history and was the fifth best in the Big Sky this season. Peterson had a best of 55-09.25 to move into ninth place at Sacramento State.

On the track, Jacob Huston competed in the 3K for the first time this year and posted a time of 8:42.99 which moved him into sixth place in Hornet history. Edwardo Vasquez jumped to ninth place in the 800 after running 1:54.99.
