SEATTLE — Senior Chloe Berlioux continued her assault on the Sacramento State record book, setting the school record during the second day of the Husky Classic on Saturday.
Berlioux, who set the school record in the indoor 3K earlier this season, ran 4:43.56 in the mile which bettered her career best by over 15 seconds. That time shattered Lea Wallace's school record of 4:48.19 from 2011 and gave Berlioux the second fastest time in the Big Sky this season.
Amanda Garcia also set a career best in the mile with a time of 4:55.81. Garcia shaved 2.5 seconds off her career best and moved into third place in school history. Her time placed her ninth in the Big Sky this season.
The Hornet women set two additional top 10 marks during the day. Senior Hannah Edwards ran 2:12.16 in the 800 for the sixth fastest time recorded by a Hornet. Joy Weems jumped into ninth place in 400 after running 56.94. Edwards' time is the second fastest in the Big Sky this season and met the automatic qualifying standard for the upcoming Big Sky Championships.
Sacramento State had eight season bests by members of the men's team. Aric Walden made his debut in the 60-hurdles and ran 8.31 seconds to place 11th in the qualifying round. Despite qualifying, Walden did not compete in the semifinals. His time is the fifth fastest in the Big Sky this year and met the conference's automatic qualifying standard.
Michael Tuner long jumped 23-04.75 to place fourth in the meet. HIs mark is the fourth longest in conference action in 2016. Sophomore Mohamed Abdullah had a triple jump of 49-04.25 to place second at the meet and move into third place in the Big Sky.
Sacramento State will wrap up its trip to Seattle at the UW Open on Sunday. The team will then compete at the Big Sky Championships in Bozeman, Mont., in two weeks.
