BERLIOUX SHATTERS SCHOOL 3K RECORD AT UW INVITATIONAL

SEATTLE — Already the owner of the school record in the outdoor 5K, senior Chloe Berlioux added the indoor 3K to her resume as she posted the fastest time by a Hornet woman on Saturday at the UW Invitational.

Berlioux ran 9:28.27 and finished ninth in the race overall and third among collegiate athletes. Her time broke the previous record 9:48.86 which was set by Rachel Mitchell in 2012. The Tulsa, Okla., native also moved to the top of the Big Sky Conference and now leads all competitors by 5.54 seconds.

Amanda Garcia also competed in the event for the first time in her career and ran 10:24.20 to place 51st overall. That mark is the 11th fastest in school history.

Alec Acevedo and Max Jette wrapped up the heptathlon on Saturday. Acevedo ran the 60-hurdles in 9.24 seconds, pole vaulted 13-05.25 and ran the 1000 in 2:46.56. Combined with his four events on Friday, the senior tallied 5,025 points to place 10th overall. His total is the best among Big Sky athletes this season and he's the only athlete in the conference to surpass 5,000 points in 2016.

Jette was 13th with 4,889 points. He ran 8.46 in the 60-hurdles, cleared 13-05.25 in the pole vault and ran 2:42.50 in the 1000.

Sacramento State will next compete at the MSU Quad in Bozeman, Mont., on Feb. 5.
