SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field programs closed the regular season portion of its year with the Sacramento State Open on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The team had five individual event winners during the day and also recorded a three top 10 marks.

Following the meet, the program recognized 19 Hornet seniors who were appearing at home for the final time.

The Hornet women recorded a pair of wins in the field events and also saw Caprice Powell and Teresa Mallory place their name in the school record book. Powell ran 11.71 to match her career best in the 100 and finished second in the race. Her time is tied for the fourth fastest all-time by a Hornet woman. Mallory finished third in the 800 after running 2:09.24 to move into sixth place in the Hornet record book. Adiranna Royal improved her career best in the steeplechase with a time of 11:17.74 to move into eighth place at Sacramento State.

The individual event wins from the women came from Markita Hinton and Kathleen Durand. Hinton had a shot put of 46-06.75 while Durand threw the discus 149-05.

The men had three events winners in the field events. Steven Pust won the men's pole vault after clearing 16-02.00. Senior Zach Coniglio had a discus throw of 169-05 and Garrett Jacobs finished first in the javelin with a best of 174-09.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in Cheney, Wash. The heptathlon and decathlon begin on Wednesday while the main event program will start on Friday and continue on Saturday.
