MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SECOND AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team shot 3-under par as a team during the final round of the Big Sky Championship on finished in second place in the tournament on Wednesday at Greenhorn Creek Resort.

The Hornets were led by 2-under par rounds of 70 from Aaron Beverly and Taylor Knoll and also received a 1-under par 71 from Luke Kristo. Sacramento State finished with a three-round total of 297-295-285-877 and were 21 strokes back of Idaho which set the Big Sky Conference Championship record with a total of 276.

Individually, Idaho sophomore Jared du Toit was the medalist after recording rounds of 73-69-66-208. His total also set the Big Sky Championship record while his third-round score tied the course record at Greenhorn Creek.

Kristo tied for third place in the tournament with a total of 75-70-71-216. He played the front nine of the course at 1-over with birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-5 ninth. He dropped to 1-under early on the back nine after birdies on the par-5 10th and par-4 11th. He was even after a pair of bogeys and a birdie on the par-4 14th but ended the tournament with a birdie on the par-5 18th which circled the cup.

Beverly tied for fifth place and improved his score every round at 74-73-70-217. Two pars started his day and were followed by a birdie on the par-3 third and an eagle on the par-5 fourth where he holed out from about 50 yards. Back-to-back bogeys came before a birdie on the par-5 seventh. He made the turn at 3-under with the help of a birdie on No. 9. On the back nine, he bogeyed the par-4 11th and tripled the par-3 13th after hitting two shots into the water. However, he closed with birdies on three of the final four holes to get to 2-under.

Knoll finished in a tie for 11th place with rounds of 76-76-70-222. He had three birdies (Nos. 2, 8 and 9) on the front nine to go along with a bogey. On the back, he bogeyed No. 11 before a birdie on No. 12 returned him to 2-under. A bogey on No. 14 came before three pars and a birdie on No. 18.

Freshman Zach Liberatore also recorded his best round of the championship to tie for 19th at 79-76-74-229. Liberatore played the front nine even with a birdie on the par-5 fourth and a bogey on the par-3 sixth. He started the back nine with a double bogey on the par-5 10th and was 3-over on two different occasions before a birdie on No. 16 and two pars.

Senior Riley Hayfield completed the lineup and tied for 27th at 72-80-81-233. Hayfleid struggled in the initial portion on his round, playing the first eight holes at 10-over par. He started his comeback with a birdie on the par-5 ninth and ended 1-under over his final 10 holes.
