WOMEN PICKED FIRST, MEN SECOND IN BIG SKY PRESEASON POLL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's track and field team was picked to finish first and the men were predicted to place second in the Big Sky Outdoor poll, it was announced today.

The Hornet women, which narrowly captured the Big Sky Indoor championship earlier this season, garnered seven of the 12 first-place votes and accumulated 133 points. Montana State was picked second with 129 points while Northern Arizona was third with 125. Both schools received two first-place votes. Portland State was the only other school to be picked first and the Vikings tallied 105 points which ranked fifth.

In the men's poll, Northern Arizona received 10 first-place votes and were picked to defend its title. The Lumberjacks finished with 140 total points and were followed by Sacramento State which racked up 130 points and the remaining two first-place nods. Montana State (124), Southern Utah (97) and Idaho State completed the top five.

Voting was calculated by each team receiving 12 points for a first-place vote, 11 points for a second-place vote, etc. Coaches were allowed to vote for their respective teams.

The Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Cheney, Wash., May 13-16.
