Box Score

SAN DIEGO -- No. 73 Sacramento State won the doubles point and forced three sets at No. 5 and 6 singles, but fell to No. 72 San Diego State, 6-1, on Tuesday at the Aztec Tennis Center.

Coming into the match, the Hornets had won five straight, which included three 7-0 victories in a row.

In doubles play, Hornet juniors Jennifer Ong and Olivia Boija defeated the Aztecs' Tami Nguyen and Hailey Johnson at No. 2 by a score of 6-3. The current Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week, sophomore Alina Soltanici, and sophomore Deimante Bulatovaite secured the opening point for the Sacramento State with their 6-4 win at No. 1.

The Hornets have been strong at the start of late, winning the doubles point in the last four matches.

San Diego State (8-8) halted the Hornet momentum at No. 1 singles, where Soltanici fell to Kristin Buth, 6-1, 7-5. The Hornet had won her last four No. 1 singles matches.

Sacramento State's redshirt freshman Anna-Maria Nau and Boija fell victim to straight set losses at No. 2 and 4, which gave the Aztecs a 3-1 advantage.

However, the Hornets hung tough in the remaining matches.

At No. 3, Bulatovaite was narrowly beaten by SDSU's Kennedy Davis, 7-5, 7-5. The sophomore has been in more close matches than any other Hornet, forcing or winning a set that went to seven points, nine times this season.

Sacramento State freshman Ana Loaiza Esquivias saw her seven-match winning streak fall to the Aztecs' Paola Diaz at No. 5, in three sets. Despite winning the first set, Loaiza Esquivias could not hold off Diaz, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Hornet junior Daria Savchenko lost for the first time at No. 6 this season, as she fell to San Diego State's Isabelle Hoorn. Savchenko forced a third-set tiebreaker, but came up just short, losing 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
