SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Sacramento State men's golf team was led by Luke Kristo, Robert Parden and Taylor Knoll who shot 70, 71 and 72, respectively, during the final round of the Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The Hornets shot an ever par 288 during the round and finished in 12th place with a total of 295-289-288-872 (+8). Sixth-ranked Texas Tech blistered the course over the three rounds and finished at 29-under to win the team title by 11 strokes over No. 38 Southeastern Louisiana.
Kristo started his day on the 14th hole with a par before a bogey on the par-3 15th and a birdie on the par-4 16th. Two more pars came before a birdie on the par-3 first which moved him to 1-under. The senior then parred seven of his next eight holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-4 sixth. Kristo dropped back to 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 10th and closed his round with a birdie on the par-5 13th. His 54-hole total of 70-72-70-212 tied him for 13th overall.
Knoll began on the 13th hole with a birdie but was even through his first eight holes. He then birdied the par-3 third and par-4 fourth before a double bogey on the par-5 fifth. Knoll rebounded with seven consecutive pars to finish at 72-67-72-211. That total set his 54-hole best by three strokes and helped him tie for 10th place in the tournament.
Parden overcame a birdie on his first hole (No. 15) to finish at 1-under. He birdied the par-4 16th and then parred his next six holes before dropping to 2-under with birdies on the par-5 fifth and par-4 sixth. However, he found himself even after two bogeys over his next six holes but returned to the red with a birdie on the par-5 13th. The sophomore finished tied for 59th after shooting 76-76-71-223.
Riley Hayfield completed the scorers for the Hornets with a round of 75 on Tuesday. Hayfield had two birdies, two bogeys and a triple bogey. He totaled 77-77-75-229 and finished 80th.
Aaron Beverly tied for 81st with rounds of 77-74-80-231. On Tuesday, Beverly had two birdies, four bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey.
Sacramento State will next compete at the El Macero Classic on April 10-12 in Davis, Calif.
