Box Score 2 SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- No. 72 Sacramento State extended its winning streak to four with a 7-0 shutout over Big Sky Conference opponent, Northern Colorado, in the first match of a doubleheader, on Saturday at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
The Hornets improved to 10-7 on the season and 5-0 in the Big Sky where they currently sit atop the standings.
Sacramento State took the opening doubles match at No. 2 where sophomores, Alina Soltanici and Deimante Bulatovaite, beat the Bears' Chrissie Hoolahan and Lea Krajcovicova, 6-0. Northern Colorado (4-12, 1-6) won at No. 1 to make a winner-take-all scenario for the doubles point at No. 3.
The duo of junior Daria Savchenko and freshman Ana Loaiza Esquivias were in a tightly contested match against the Bears' Hilary Walters-West and Marissa Baca, but the Hornet pair came out on top 7-5 to grab the early lead for Sacramento State.
In singles play, the Hornets did not let up as they did not drop a single set.
Savchenko started off with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Redshirt freshman Tori Trylovich took on Baca at No. 6 and the Hornet came out on top, 6-1, 6-1. It was Trylovich's first singles match since Jan. 24.
Sacramento State's Soltanici clinched the win for the Hornets at No. 1 as she defeated Krajcovicova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, Loaiza Esquivias pushed her singles matches winning streak to a season-best six as she took down the Bears' Beth Coton, 6-3, 6-0.
Current Big Sky women's tennis player of the week, junior Olivia Boija, continued to shine as she topped Northern Colorado's Courtney Schulte at No. 3. The Hornets' Bulatovaite finished the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hoolahan at No. 2.
It was the second consecutive shutout for the Hornets and the third of the season. Sacramento State will play against North Dakota in the second match of today's doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
