Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. -- Sacramento State's junior Jennifer Ong and sophomore Deimante Bulatovaite were able to force third-set tiebreakers in their singles matches, but the Hornets ultimately fell to No. 36 Arizona, 7-0, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
Bulatovaite dropped the first set of the match at No. 3 singles before taking the second set 6-4. However, she was unable to win the tiebreaker 10-5 and lost the match to Arizona's Laura Oldham.
Ong was able to split her first two sets at No. 6 singles, but retired the match in the tiebreaker against the Wildcats' Devin Chypyha.
Hornet freshman Ana Loaiza Esquivias was unable to match yesterday's win over Nevada by losing 6-3, 6-1 to Inge Hendrikx at No. 5 singles.
Sacramento State sophomore No. 51 Alina Soltanici and junior Olivia Boija both fell in straight sets against Arizona. Redshirt freshman Anna-Maria Nau also shared that fate as she lost to Briar Preston at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, the duo of Ong and Boija were unable to get anything going at No. 1, as they fell to Arizona's Preston and Shayne Austin, 6-1. The pair of Soltanici and Bulatovaite also lost their only set at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, to give Arizona, who now own a 3-0 record on the season, the early lead in the match.
Sacramento State is now 1-4 on the season and will begin Big Sky Conference play at Eastern Washington on Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m.
