Eight Sacramento State men's tennis players participated the team's first tournament of the fall season over the weekend at the Aggie Invitational.

The tournament was highlighted by sophomore Kasparas Zemaitelis and freshman Mikus Losbergs posting a perfect 4-0 record and winning the Doubles A Bracket championship. The Hornet duo beat teams from Pacific, UC Davis, Santa Clara and Stanford, respectively. In the finals, Losbergs and Zemaitelis knocked off Stanford's Roy Lederman and Brandon Sutter, 8-5.

The Hornets claimed another doubles title when freshmen Dom Miller and Uli Vollath posted a 3-1 record and won the Doubles A Consolation Bracket title. After falling in the first round to a tandem from Saint Mary's, Miller and Vollath were able to beat teams from Saint Mary's, Cal and Stanford. In the final, they knocked off Trey Strobel and Anthony Tsodikov of Stanford, 8-6.

Combined, Sacramento State's doubles teams went 8-3 at the tournament which included sophomore Christopher Clayton and freshman Donald Hall winning a match over a pair from Pacific.

Eight different Hornets participated in the singles draw, and six of those players recorded at least one win. That included Zemaitelis beating UC Davis' Brett Bacharach by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Senior Joaquin Marquez, Vollath, Miller, Hall and Clayton also won matches in the singles draw.

"We were very pleased how every player competed from the beginning of the match until the end," Sacramento State assistant coach Kevin Kurtz said. "Win or lose, our guys competed hard and put pressure on their opponents the entire tournament.

"Most of our doubles teams have figured out a strategy that works well for them, and its setting up their strengths. They are really working well together as a team on the court rather than two individuals, and its been very exciting to see."

The Hornets will play their second and final tournament of the fall schedule on Oct. 22-25 when they compete at the ITA Northwest Regionals in Seattle. Sacramento State opens the spring season on Wednesday, Jan. 13, with a road match at Stanford.
