WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS EASTERN WASHINGTON AND PORTLAND STATE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State dropped just one set over 12 singles matches and six doubles matches on Saturday as the Hornets scored 7-0 Big Sky wins over both Eastern Washington and Portland State at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

Sacramento State (7-8, 5-0 Big Sky) won for the sixth time in its last seven matches and extended its decade-long Big Sky winning streak to 110 straight matches. Eastern Washington dropped to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the Big Sky and Portland State evened its season records at 5-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Hornet freshman Alina Soltanici played at No. 1 singles in the absence of injured sophomore Jennifer Nguyen and earned a pair of wins. Senior Sophie Lohscheidt moved up to No. 2 singles and was nearly perfect, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Dani Young of Eastern Washington and 6-0, 6-0 over Marina Todd of Portland State.

Sophomore Olivia Boija earned a pair of 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 3 while senior Katharina Knoebl had a 6-0, 6-1 win vs the Eagles and another straight set victory against the Vikings at No. 4. Freshman Deimante Bulatovaite played No. 5 singles in both matches and dropped just four games in two straight-set wins.

A couple of Hornet freshmen earned their first collegiate wins on Saturday at the No. 6 position. Andie Mouzes saw her first collegiate action in the spring season and earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eastern Washington's Malieva Hedberg while Emily McColl scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ayaka Terakawa of Portland State.

The Hornets also dominated doubles play on Saturday, with Boija and Lohscheidt leading the way with a pair of wins at No. 1. Knoebl and sophomore Daria Savchenko won 8-3 and 8-1 at No. 2 and Bulatovaite and Soltanici earned 8-1 wins over both Eastern Washington and Portland State at No. 3.

Sacramento State is 29-1 in singles and 15-0 in doubles through five conference matches. After wrapping up a seven-match home stand the Hornets play four road matches next week, starting with a nonconference dual at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday.
