KRISTO'S 69 HIGHLIGHTS SECOND ROUND FOR MEN'S GOLF

STOCKTON, Calif. — Luke Kristo shot a 2-under par round of 69 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team during the second round of the Pacific Invitational on Friday at the Stockton Country Club. The Hornets finished the day at 2-over and are tied for seventh heading into the final round on Saturday.

Kristo was under par for most of the day after an eagle on the par-5 second hole moved him to 2-under. A bogey on the following hole was his lone of the round and he stayed at 1-under until a birdie on the par-3 eighth. Kristo then parred his final 10 holes. His 36-hole total of 73-69-142 has him tied for 17th.

Cody Bates bounced back from a difficult first round to shoot even par on Friday. Bates birdied the second hole but ran into trouble with a bogey on the par-4 fourth and a double bogey on the par-4 sixth. Bates was 1-over at the turn following a birdie on the eighth. He then parred holes 10-15 before a birdie on the par-5 16th moved him to even. Overall, he's tied for 41st place after shooting 76-71-147.

Taylor Knoll also had a good start with a birdie on the second and eight pars on the front side of the course. On the back nine, he had three bogeys and a birdie on the par-5 16th. Knoll is tied for 20th with rounds of 71-72-143.

Riley Hayfield is tied for 29th at 71-74-145. On Friday, Hayfield was 3-over at the midway point of his round with six pars and three bogeys. A bogey on the par-4 12th took him to 4-over before he caught fire with three birdies over a four-hole stretch (Nos. 14, 16 and 17). However, a double bogey on No. 18 ended his day at 74.

Robert Parden, who led the Hornets during the opening round, shot 76 on Friday and dropped to a tie for 36th (70-76). Parden was 1-under through six holes with birdies on the par-3 third and par-4 sixth. He then bogeyed the par-4 seventh and double bogeyed the par-3 eighth and par-4 ninth. A birdie on No. 10 came before five pars and another birdie on No. 16 to make him 2-over.  A bogey on No. 17 and a double bogey on the final hole completed his round.

Freshman Zach Liberatore, who's competing as an individual, shot 71 to move into a tie for 26th place. Lieberatore birdied the second hole but was 2-over just four holes later with a double bogey on the par-4 fourth and a bogey on the par-4 sixth. From there, he parred Nos. 7-10 and birdied Nos. 11, 13 and 14. After three more pars, he bogeyed No. 18.

Denver moved into the team lead after shooting 6-under during the second round. The Pioneers have totaled 563 through two rounds and hold a one stroke lead over Grand Canyon and Washington State.
