MEN'S GOLF FINISHES EIGHTH AT BILL CULLUM INVITATIONAL

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Behind even par rounds from Taylor Knoll, Luke Kristo and Robert Parden, the Sacramento State men's golf team finished in eighth place at the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

The Hornets shot 287-295-289-871 for the tournament to finish at 7-over par as a team. USC extended its lead to win the team title. The No. 21 Trojans finished with a total of 833 and were followed by No. 27 Arizona State (844) and Washington State (863) in the top three. The Hornets faced one other Big Sky Conference institution in the 20-team field and finished one stroke ahead of Southern Utah.

Knoll tied for 21st to lead Sacramento State. The junior began with a bogey on the par-5 15th and returned to even with a birdie on the par-5 18th. He then parred his next 15 holes. His total and place were the best of the season.

Riley Hayfield completed the tournament without recording a score above a bogey. The senior started on the 16th with a bogey on the par-4 but was 1-under following birdies on Nos. 18 and 2 (both par 5). Bogeys on the par-4 fourth, par-5 sixth and par-3 seventh moved him to 2-over before a birdie on the par-4 eighth. He closed his round with a bogey on No. 10 and a birdie on the par-4 14th. His 54-hole total of 74-70-73-217 was the second best of his career.

Kristo paired four birdies with four pars during his round and finished the tournament tied for 31st place at 72-74-72-218. The senior played the first through ninth holes of the course at 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 sixth. On the back side, he had three birdies and four bogeys with two pars.

Parden tied his second best 54-hole score of his career by shooting 74-74-72-220. The sophomore started on the 16th hole and opened play with four consecutive pars before birdying the par-5 second. Two more pars came ahead of a double bogey on the par-4 fifth. He then ran off four pars on either side of a birdie on the par-4 10th.

Sophomore Aaron Beverly completed the lineup with a total of 74-77-76-227 to tie for 74th. Beverly's third round was comprised of three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.

Jon Rahm of Arizona State rallied to become the medalist. Rahm, who was tied for third entering the final round, shot 69 on Tuesday and finished one stroke ahead of USC's Rico Hoey.

Sacramento State will conclude the fall portion of its schedule when it plays at the Pacific Invitational on Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
