HARRY EXTENDS HIT STREAK, BUT UTAH TECH TAKES SERIES

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Freshman Sam Harry extended his team-best hitting streak to 10 consecutive games, finishing as one of three Hornets with two hits on the night, but host Utah Tech's offense was too much to overcome as the Trailblazers cruised to a 13-3 win in seven innings on Friday night in game two of their Western Athletic Conference series.

Finishing 2-for-3 and reaching base safely three times on the night, Harry became the third Sacramento State player to post a double-digit hitting streak this season, posting a hit in every game dating back to the series opener against Winthrop on March 19. During that run, the freshman from Castle Rock, Colo., has collected multiple hits in each of his last four games and seven of the 10 contests overall.

Teammates Erick Dessens and Cameron Sewell also finished with a pair of hits on the night, the former with his team-high 13th multi-hit game of the year while Sewell added his eighth such performance this year — good for fourth on the team — and drove in a run.

Utah Tech (20-11, 2-0 WAC) scored four runs in the second — all unearned — to take an early lead before the Hornets (11-20, 0-2 WAC) were able to claw a pair back in the third. Harry and Dessens singled to lead-off the inning and a one-out double by Sewell plated his team's first run of the game. With runners at the corners, a wild pitch halved the Trailblazers' advantage, but that's as close as the Hornets would come.

A five-run bottom of the third broke the game wide open and the home side added a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth en route to the win.

Sacramento State's third run of the night came in the fourth as Luis Pimentel-Guerrero laced a two-out double down the right field line after Brett Ott and Harry walked earlier in the inning to set the table.

Starter Carson Timothy (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing four earned (eight overall) on four hits in 2.2 innings, while reliever Tyler Ray (3-2) was credited with the win, allowing just two hits and striking out six over the final 3.2 innings.

Game three of the series is scheduled for an 11 a.m. PT start on Saturday morning.
