TRIP TO RENO CLOSES RUN OF EIGHT STRAIGHT AWAY FROM HOME FOR BASEBALL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Fresh off a victory over the top-ranked team in the nation, the Sacramento State baseball team has little time to celebrate before getting back to work this week, making the drive up Interstate 80 to take on Nevada in a midweek contest on Tuesday (April 28) at 6 p.m. in Reno, Nev.

ABOUT THE WOLF PACK
• Nevada enters the week with a 23-17 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Mountain West Conference play
• The Wolf Pack are tied for the top spot in the league standings along with Air Force, both holding a one-game lead over Washington State (11-7) and 1.5-game lead over fourth-place San Diego State (10-5)
• Nevada is coming off a series win over in-state rival UNLV over the weekend, bookending wins of 13-3 (8 inn.) and 9-1 around an 8-7 game-two defeat at home
• The Wolf Pack have won their last four weekend series dating back to a series loss to the Falcons on March 20-22 as Air Force took 2-of-3 in Reno
• Nevada is 4-6 in 10 midweek games this season losing its last four in a streak that started with an 11-2 loss to Sacramento State on April 6
• Senior pitcher/utility Jayce Dobie leads all regulars with a .391 average and a 1.070 OPS, scoring 40 runs, leading the team with 63 hits, and adding 13 doubles to go with seven home runs and 37 RBI

• As a team, Nevada is batting .330 at the plate while averaging 8.28 runs per game and slugging 59 home runs
• As a pitching staff, the Wolf Pack sports a 7.25 team ERA over 342.2 innings, striking out 325 against 184 walks, while opponents are batting .306 against them

SERIES NOTES
• Nevada leads the all-time series with Sacramento State by a 100-85-2 count, including a 61-35 edge in the series as Division I rivals
• The Hornets snapped a four-game losing streak in the series with an 11-2 victory at home back on April 6, posting their first win over the Wolf Pack since a 7-3 win in Reno on April 2, 2024
• Of the Hornets' 85 wins in the series, 54 of those have come at home as they lead the series with Nevada in Northern California by a 54-45-2 count
• On the road, the Wolf Pack leads the series 53-30, but Sacramento State has won two of the last three trips to Northern Nevada
• Nevada won the last meeting in Reno by a 12-5 score on April 22 last season, but the Hornets won 12-8 in 2023 and the aforementioned win in 2024
• Sacramento State's 11 runs in the earlier meeting this year were the most for the Hornets in the series since a 21-9 victory on March 19, 2024

CONFERENCE CALL
• Sacramento State has faced all nine of the Mountain West Conference's current baseball playing members, posting a combined 236-384-5 record
• Tuesday marks the final game against a Mountain West opponent this year as the Hornets are 1-2 in the three previous such games this season
• Not including games against the Mountain West's newest member in former WAC rival Grand Canyon, Sacramento State was 1-3 against the league in 2025, splitting with the Bulldogs and dropping a pair of midweek contests to Nevada
• The Hornets' 85 wins over Nevada are the most against any single Mountain West opponent in the program's history, followed by 48 against San Jose State and 40 against Fresno State

MIDWEEK MADNESS
• Tuesday's contest marks the 12th midweek game of the year for the Hornets, who are 6-5 in their previous 10 this season
• Sacramento State has won six of its previous eight midweek games, posting wins over Pacific (10-0 in seven innings on March 11), San Francisco (8-3 on March 17 and 12-2 in seven innings on April 14), splitting a pair at Kansas with an 11-1 loss on March 24 and a 7-4 win on March 25, Nevada (11-2 on April 6), and UC Davis (7-1 on April 22)
• Tuesday marks the seventh midweek road game this season where the Hornets are 3-3
• This season's six midweek victories are the most since the 2024 team also finished with six
• A seventh victory on Tuesday would be the most since the 2023 squad finished 10-3 in midweek contests
• Of the team's last 34 midweek games, a little less than half (15) have been decided by two runs or fewer, with 11 of those 15 decided by a single run

LOOKING AHEAD
• Sacramento State returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend, hosting a three-game series against Abilene Christian beginning Friday (May 1) and running through the weekend
• Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start on Saturday (May 2), and a 10:30 a.m. first pitch on Sunday (May 3)
• Sunday's finale was originally scheduled for Noon, but was moved up due to a change in Abliene Christian's travel plans
• All three games will be streamed live on the ESPN+ platform

HORNET SHORT HOPS
• Tuesday's game marks the last time that the Hornets will leave the state of California during the regular season as Sacramento State hosts WAC rivals Abilene Christian (May 1-3) and Tarleton State (May 14-16) around a second midweek game at UC Davis (May 5) and a trip to Southern California to take on California Baptist (May 8-10)
• Sacramento State is coming off a 2-2 week in which they defeated Causeway rival UC Davis and posted its first-ever win over a No. 1-ranked opponent with a 9-6 victory against UCLA on the road
• With Sunday's win over the Bruins, the Hornets have now defeated the No. 1-ranked and No. 2-ranked teams in the same season after taking 2-of-3 from then No. 2 LSU on March 7-8 in Baton Rouge, La.
• Pitching on his birthday, sophomore right-hander Carson Timothy earned the win for Sacramento State against UCLA, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out a season-high five over five innings of work
• Of Timothy's three wins this season, two have come against the top-two teams in the country
• Freshman Trevor Wilson earned his fourth save of the season in the finale against the Bruins, allowing just three hits over the final 2.1 scoreless innings
• Three of Wilson's four saves this year have come against the top-two teams in the nation
• The nine runs scored by the Hornets were the most surrendered by UCLA this season and the most since a 9-5 Bruin loss to LSU in the second game of last year's College World Series
• Sacramento State also handed UCLA only its second weekend loss of the year and the first since an 8-7 defeat against UC San Diego back on Feb. 15
• Junior Erick Dessens slugged his 10th home run of the year in the opener against No. 1 UCLA, giving the Hornets a double-digit home run hitter for the fifth consecutive season
• Junior Jakob Poturnak slugged his sixth and seventh home runs of the season in the second and third games of the series against the Bruins, giving him 20 for his Sacramento State career
• Dessens' 69 hits (as of April 26) leads the Western Athletic Conference and ranks No. 7 in the NCAA, standing just 17 hits shy of breaking into the school's single-season top 10 list
• He also has a team-high 20 multi-hit games (10 of those with three hits or more), standing just six shy of breaking into the school's single-season top 10
• Junior Cameron Sewell and senior Jace Jeremiah enters this week's contests with nine-game hitting streaks
• Sewell is batting .300 (10-for-30) during his streak, scoring six runs and driving in five
• Jeremiah is batting 364 (12-for-33) during his streak, scoring seven runs and driving in seven
• Freshman Sam Harry has reached base safely in each of his last 10 games, hitting safely in eight of those 10 contests while being hit by a pitch twice to keep the streak alive
• During the run, Harry is batting .310 (13-for-42) with four extra-base hits, 11 runs scored, and six RBI
• Sacramento State has homered in each of its last four games, tying its longest stretch of the year (Feb. 21-27)
• The Hornets finished with three stolen bases in the finale against UCLA, setting a new season-high and posting their highest total since swiping three bases at Utah Valley on May 10, 2025
• Sacramento State's pitching staff limited the Bruins to just 17 runs on the weekend — the second-fewest in a weekend series for UCLA this year behind only the 15 runs scored against Minnesota the weekend prior
