SOFTBALL TRAVELS TO OGDEN FOR THREE-GAME BIG SKY SERIES AT WEBER STATE

• Sacramento State (22-13, 1-2) will play its second straight Big Sky road series when the Hornets travel to Ogden, Utah, for a three-game set at Weber State (10-28, 1-2). The Hornets and Wildcats will play a doubleheader Friday at noon PT, followed by a Saturday single game at 11 a.m. PT.
• The Hornets were supposed to play a Tuesday non-league game at Pacific, but were rained out. The teams will make up the game on April 21 in Stockton.
• Sacramento State got off to an 18-5 start (the program's best mark since 1995), but has lost eight of its last 12 games. That includes dropping two of three games to begin the Big Sky season last week at Northern Colorado.
• Weber State opened conference play by dropping two of three games at Idaho State. The Wildcats also played Tuesday - a 12-1 home loss to Utah Valley.
• Sacramento State is 3-5 when playing on the road. The Hornets have been very good at neutral fields (9-1), but not as effective when playing on an opponent's home field.
• Amazingly, the Wildcats have played just four home games this season, and are 2-2. Conversely, the Hornets have played 17 times at home (10-7 in those contests).
• Every game of the Weber State series will stream live on ESPN+. All games against a Big Sky opponent this year will stream on ESPN+.
• The Hornets are 15-26 all-time vs. Weber State, including a 6-14 mark when playing in Ogden. Since the Big Sky began sponsoring softball in 2013, the Hornets have won just two series in Ogden: 2-1 in 2018, and 2-0 in 2014. Sacramento State was 1-2 in 2024, and 0-3 in 2022.
• Overall, Weber State has won six of the last eight in the series. The Hornets were 1-3 vs. the Wildcats a year ago (1-2 at home; 8-7 loss in Big Sky Tournament in Greeley), with each of those WSU victories coming by two runs or fewer.
• Sacramento State will play five Big Sky three-game series, but only two of those will come at home: April 10-11 vs. Montana; April 24-25 vs. Portland State. Last season, the Hornets played three of their five Big Sky series at home.
• The elevation in Greeley, Colo. (4,675 feet above sea level) was not kind to Hornet pitching, as Sacramento State allowed 19 runs over three games to Northern Colorado. The Hornets will now travel to Ogden, Utah, where it's 4,341 feet above sea level.
• Despite that, Sacramento State's 2.57 ERA is the 15th best mark in the nation, and the team's 1.32 WHIP ranks 33rd. The Hornets have four regulars sitting below a 3.00 ERA, including Danyelle Leone (1.69), Kennedie Bacon (2.54) and Alexa Ortiz (2.76). Kyndal Williams has appeared in three games this season, and has a 0.66 ERA.
• Leone's ERA is the 23rd best mark in the nation among pitchers that have thrown at least one inning per game. The right-hander, who has entered a team-best 15 games in relief, has allowed two runs or fewer in 16 of her 18 appearances (three starts).
• Sacramento State's offense has come alive over the last four games. During that four-game stretch, the Hornets are hitting .388 (40-for-103) with 40 runs, four doubles, eight home runs, 26 RBIs, a .680 slugging percentage and .426 on-base percentage.
• Prior to that four-game stretch, the Hornet offense - through the first 31 games - was hitting .268 and averaging 4.0 runs per game with a .434 slugging percentage and .345 on-base percentage.
• The Hornets are missing four injured starters, including three players that would be hitting in the middle of the lineup - catcher Katie Marsh, outfielder Andrea Lira, and first baseman Alexa Carino.
• Third baseman Madison Evers-Lyles had a monster day in the team's 11-4 win over UC Davis, going 4-for-4 with three runs, three homers, 13 total bases and seven RBIs. The home runs, RBIs and hits all tied Sacramento State single-game records.
• The Hornets are sixth in the nation with 29 sacrifices…Hornets are 14-1 when scoring first…Madi Mendoza's 87 assists are 18th in the country…Lafulafu Malepeai, who leads the Big Sky in SLG% (.813), OPS (1.321), homers (12) and walks (25), currently has an eight-game hitting streak.
