LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Sacramento State concluded the three-day Big West Beach Challenge at Rosie's Dog Beach.

The Hornets (9-10 overall) played six times over three days - twice each day - and wrapped things up this afternoon with a 4-1 loss to CSUN and 5-0 loss to third-ranked Cal Poly.

Of the six opponents Sacramento State played during the tournament, three were nationally ranked, including No. 11 Long Beach State and No. 13 Hawaii.

Sacramento State's lone win today came at No. 2 against the Matadors when the duo of Victoria Marthaler/Aurora Bibolotti won, 16-21, 21-19, 15-12. The Hornets weren't far off beating CSUN, as two other Hornet duos (Karlie Spohn/Greta Davis and Skyler Gartin/Keonahi'ilani Solaita) lost in three sets. In addition, Sacramento State's No. 1 team of Reese Ampi/Ashlynn Archer lost, 21-14, 27-25.

In the matchup with Cal Poly, the Mustangs won each match in straight sets. Cal Poly won the tournament, going a perfect 6-0, while beating five of its six opponents by 5-0 scores. The Mustangs have won 15 straight matches.

Sacramento State returns to action next Friday-Saturday when it travels to Clearwater, Fla., to compete at the USF Beach Bash. The Hornets will play twice on Friday and Saturday, beginning Friday vs. Stephen F. Austin at 9:15 a.m. PT.
