LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Sacramento State split a pair of matches on the second day of the Big West Challenge at Rosie's Dog Beach. The Hornets opened with a 4-1 victory over CSU Bakersfield, before falling later in the afternoon to UC Davis, 3-2.
The Hornets are playing six times over three days at the tournament, which included a pair of matches against nationally ranked Hawaii and Long Beach State yesterday. Sacramento State concludes the tourney tomorrow against both CSUN and third-ranked Cal Poly.
The Hornets' doubles teams of
Victoria Marthaler/
Aurora Bibolotti (No. 2) and
Kate Doorn/
Mia Guevara (No. 3) won both their matches today. Marthaler/Bibolotti won each in straight sets by nearly identical scores - 21-14, 21-18 over the Roadrunners, and 21-18, 21-14 against the Aggies. They have now won five of their last six matches, including a victory over 13th-ranked Hawaii yesterday.
Doorn/Guevara won in three sets against CSUB, and straight sets over Davis.

Sacramento State (9-8) concludes the tournament tomorrow vs. CSUN at 10:20 a.m., followed by third-ranked Cal Poly at 3 p.m.
