SALEM, Ore. -- Sacramento State opened the season with a pair of victories, including a 4-1 outcome vs. Portland, and 5-0 over Chaminade.
Today's matches were part of the Corban Invitational in Salem, a season-opening, two-day tournament in which the Hornets play four times. Sacramento State is back in action tomorrow morning vs. tournament host Corban at 9 a.m., and Southern Oregon at 11 a.m.
The Hornets used the same lineup for the top four pairs in both matches. That included

In the win over Portland, the only loss came at No. 1. Three of the five matches went three sets, and the Hornets were victories in each. That includes Archer/Ampi (19-21, 21-18, 15-7), Spohn/Davis (26-24, 20-22, 15-9), and Gartin/Natusch (14-21, 21-14, 15-4).
In the win over Chaminade, each of the Hornets' doubles teams won in straight sets.
Should the Hornets win both matches tomorrow, the team would improve to 4-0 for the first time in program history. The first year of Sacramento State beach volleyball was 2013.
