SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State women's soccer standout Ali Fuamatu-Ma'afala was one of 30 players called into camp for the American Samoa Women's National Team in advance of the nation's qualifying matches for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Football Federation of American Samoa announced the initial player pool on Tuesday (Sept. 2) under the direction of head coach Amanda Cromwell. Camp begins in Los Angeles on Sept. 3 and runs through Sept. 8, with another camp for on-island players to follow.
A full training camp with selected players begins in November followed by a series of friendlies, and concludes with the World Cup qualifying rounds in Avarua, Rarotaonga in the Cook Islands in December.
The 2027 Women's World Cup will be held in Brazil — the first time that the tournament will be held in South America — from June 24 to July 25.
A native of Mililani, Hawai'i, Fuamatu-Ma'afala played three seasons for the Hornets from 2022-24 after spending her freshman year at UNLV. She started 35 of her 50 matches in the green and gold during those three seasons, finishing with a pair of assists against CSUN and Weber State as a senior.
That year, she also helped Sacramento State claim its third Big Sky Conference Tournament championship and — and its first since 2010 — and gain the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history.
