WOMEN’S SOCCER BLANKED BY FRESNO STATE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's soccer team could not find its rhythm on Sunday afternoon, suffering a 6-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Fresno State.

The loss was the third straight for the Hornets, who fell to 2-3 overall on the season. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, snapped a three-match winless streak against their hosts, earning their first win of the year in improving to 1-1-2 overall.

Fresno State scored 97 seconds apart in the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the break, putting home goals in the 39th and 41st minutes. The Bulldogs then made it a three-goal lead just after the break, putting home another in the 52nd minute before adding scores in the 72nd, 73rd, and 88th minutes to cap the scoring.

After being held to just two attempts in the first 45 minutes, Sacramento State's offense fared better in the second half, taking seven of its nine shots on the day after halftime. Junior Tea Reyes finished with a team-high three attempts to lead the way.

The Hornets close out their four-match home stand with two more at Hornet Soccer Field next week, welcoming Hawai'i on Thursday (Sept. 4) for a 3 p.m. kickoff before hosting San Jose State at Noon on Sunday (Sept. 7) in the first match of a doubleheader with the men's team.
