MEN'S GOLF LED BY DUGGER IN SECOND ROUND OF BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP

Tournament will conclude with final round on Tuesday

LA QUINTA, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team finished the second round of the Big West Championship at 2-over par and was led by Luke Dugger who had a 1-under par round of 71. The Hornets are in ninth place in the team standings with one round remaining.
 
Dugger moved up 14 positions in the standings and improved his score by six strokes from the previous day. The graduate student parred the first eight holes and then had his lone bogey of the day on the par-4 ninth. Dugger was 2-under on the back nine with birdies on the par-5 13th and par-4 16th to accompany seven pars.
 
Max Thomas and Zach Mate were each even during the second round. Thomas had a team-high four birdies in the round with two on both sides of the course. He was 1-under on the front nine with birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 and a bogey on No. 9. On the back nine, he had birdies on Nos. 11 and 16 and bogeys on Nos. 10, 12 and 14.
 
Mate birdied No. 6 and had eight pars on the front side of the course. He played the back nine at 1-over with a birdie (No. 15) and two bogeys (Nos. 12 and 17).
 
Jake Aberle completed the team total with a round of 75. Aberle was one of three Hornets who totaled 35 on the front nine as he birdied the first hole, bogeyed the second and later birdied the par-5 sixth. He was 4-over on the back side of the course with a birdie, a bogey and a pair of double bogeys.
 
Cal State Fullerton remains the team leader and was able to extend its lead by one stroke over No. 22 Long Beach State. The Titans are 17-under par through two rounds while LBSU stands at 14-under. Idaho is a distance third at 3-under.
 
Krishnav Chopraa of Long Beach State followed an opening round 63 with a 66 on Monday. Chopraa holds an 8-shot lead over Cal State Fullerton's Tegan Andrews.
