LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team took the team lead at the UC San Diego Invitational on Monday. The Hornets were 2-over par as a team  and are 17-over through the first two rounds. That total leaves the team five strokes ahead of Arkansas State who is in second place.
 
Luke Dugger led the Hornets on Monday, finishing the round at 2-under par. Dugger had seven birdies during the round, including a stretch of five consecutive bogeys on Nos. 5-9. Those holes help him offset a double bogey on the par-4 second and a triple bogey on the par-5 13^th which were his only holes that weren't a birdie or par during the round. Dugger is now tied for ninth place at with a 36-hole total of 70-70-149.
 
Zach Mate is tied for third place after his second consecutive round of 73. Mate was 2-under on the front side of the course with three birdies and a bogey on Monday. He played the back nine at 3-over with six pars and three bogeys.
 
Jake Aberle was even during the second round. Aberle was 2-under with birdies on the par-5 sixth and ninth holes. He had seven pars with bogeys on the par-4 12^th and 14^th holes.
 
Max Thomas added a round of 75 on Monday and is tied for 15^th place overall. Thomas had a birdie on the par-3 third hole before posting 11 pars and four bogeys over the final 15 holes.
 
The third round will have a 7 a.m. shotgun on Tuesday morning.
