ANDREWS EARNS BIG SKY MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Freshman shines in the triple jump in collegiate debut

FARMINGTON, Utah — True freshman Jamar Andrews, Jr., was named the Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week following his outstanding collegiate debut at the Silver State Invitational over the weekend in Sparks, Nev.

Andrews became just the third individual in Sacramento State history to surpass 50 feet in the triple jump as he recorded a best of 50-04.75 to finish in second place in the meet. His mark ranks third in school history and was the best since Jah Strange set the Hornet record of 51-03.50 in 2018. Andrews currently leads the Big Sky by over three feet and is tied for ninth in NCAA Div. I.

The Los Angeles native also competed in the long jump at the Silver State Invitational where he placed third with a best of 22-11.25.

Andrews came to Sacramento State after spending his senior season at Downey HS. While there, he finished fifth at the California State Championships in the triple jump and was also the Suburban Valley Conference winner in the event.
