LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Darla May Dela Torre and
Florencia Dufey each shot 69 in the first round of the Golf Iconic Classic on Monday at the New Mexico State Golf Course. The pair are tied for sixth place overall while the Sacramento State women's golf team is tied for fourth place.

Dela Torre began on the fifth hole with a bogey but eventually found herself at 4-under par with birdies on Nos. 7, 8, 11, 12 and 18. She had three pars and a bogey on No. 2 over her final four holes. Her score is her best this season and the second-lowest of her career.

Dufey, who is competing as an individual, posted her first sub-70 round in three seasons with the Hornets. Dufey parred her first six holes and then birdied the par-3 sixth. She moved to 2-under with a birdie on No. 8 and played her final nine holes at 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 14
th to accompany eight pars.

Ella Kraft is one stroke behind the par and is tied for 13
th place. Kraft was 2-over through her first five holes but returned to even with birdies on Nos. 12 and 13. A bogey on No. 14 and a birdie on No. 16 kept her even before she bogeyed the par-4 18
th. Once back on the front side of the course, Kraft birdies Nos. 1-3 and ended with a pair of pars.

Ashley Koga added a 1-under par round of 71 as an individual. Koga birdied No. 18 and 1 on her first two holes of the day and was never above par during the round. She fell back to even with bogeys on Nos. 8 and 14 before a birdie on the par-4 16
th took her to 1-under.

The team total was completed by a 72 from
Jocelyn Tseng and a 73 from
Sophia Lee. Tseng had a strong start to her round with three birdies over her first five holes and then parred her next five. Her first bogey came on No. 18 and she later added two more on her final two holes.

Lee traded a birdie and bogey on her first two holes and moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-5 12
th. She remained there until bogeys on the par-3 second and sixth.

Tova Hatton rounded out the lineup with a 74 comprised of a birdie and three bogeys.

Boise State leads the team standings at 12-under par. The Broncos have a six-stroke lead over San Diego State while Long Beach State (5-under), Sacramento State (4-under) and UC Irvine (4-under) complete the top five.

The second round of the tournament will take place on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Hornets will be paired with Boise State, SDSU and LBSU off holes Nos. 1-4.
