SCHNEIDER PLACES SECOND; WOMEN'S GOLF FOURTH AT KALISPEL INVITATIONAL

Four Hornets finish in top 20 of standings

SPOKANE, Wash. — Sophia Lee shot 69 in the final round of the Kalispel Invitational on Tuesday and freshman Emilia Schneider finished in second place overall to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team. The Hornets moved up one position in the standings to finish the tournament in fourth place out of 14 teams.
 
Schneider, who was competing for just the second time at the collegiate level, posted rounds of 69-73-72-214 to end the tournament at 2-under par. Her total left her two strokes back of Boise State's Leia Chung in the standings. Schneider was even during the final round as she had a birdie on the par-3 seventh, bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9, birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 and a bogey on the par-4 first.
 
Lee was the biggest mover for the team during the day as she jumped 27 spots in the standings to tie for 20th overall. The sophomore led the team with five birdies and just a pair of bogeys. She was never over par during the day and shot 73-80-69-222 over the two days.
 
Jocelyn Tseng, who was competing as an individual, was 1-over on Tuesday and tied for eighth place at 74-70-73-217. Tseng overcame a slow start which saw her 3-over through seven holes and eventually returned to even with birdies on Nos. 3, 11 and 12. However, she bogeyed her final hole (No. 13).
 
Tova Hatton shot 74 and Darla May Dela Torre 75 on Tuesday to round out the team total. Hatton had four birdies, two bogeys and a triple bogey while Dela Torre had one birdie and four bogeys. Hatton concluded the tournament tied for 13th while Dela Torre tied for 47th.
 
Boise State maintained its lead to win the team title. The Broncos were 3-under par as a team and finished 14 shots ahead of Grand Canyon and16 above Fresno State.
 
Sacramento State will next compete at the Evie Odom Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., on Oct. 9-11.
