WOMEN'S GOLF WRAPS UP FALL BY PLACING EIGHTH AT RAINBOW WAHINE INVITATIONAL

Lee shoots 2-under par 70; Hatton 72 in final round

LIHUE, Hawaii — The Sacramento State women's golf team recorded its lowest round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational but could not keep pace with the rest of the field to finish in eighth place on Wednesday at the Ocean Course Hokuala. The Hornets recorded a team score of 290 and were 2-over par during the day. The team was led by a 70 from Sophia Lee and a 72 from Tova Hatton.

Lee began her round with a birdie on the par-5 sixth and moved to 2-under with a birdie on the par-3 eighth. Her first bogey did not come until the par-4 12th but was offset by a birdie on the par-3 14th. After three pars, the sophomore bogeyed the par-5 18th before playing her final five holes at 1-under with four pars and a birdie on the par-5 second. Lee tied for 27th overall 76-75-70-221.

Hatton had the highest finish on the team, tying for 19th place at 74-74-72-220. On Wednesday, Hatton was 3-under through eight holes with birdies on Nos. 6, 10 and 11. She bookended bogeys around five pars over the final seven holes of the back nine and birdied No. 2 to get to 2-under. However, the junior closed the tournament with a double bogey on the par-4 third to finish even.

Sacramento State also counted a 73 from Darla May Dela Torre and a 75 from Emilia Schneider towards the team total. Dela Torre was 3-over through 10 holes but used a pair of birdies over her final four holes.  Schneider had 15 pars and three bogeys in her round.

Jocelyn Tseng shot 76 in the final round while the team's two individuals — Florenica Dufey and Ashley Koga — shot 75 and 76, respectively.

BYU maintained its lead heading into the final round to win the tournament by eight strokes. The Cougars were 6-under as a team and were led by Maria Jose Barragan who was the medalist at 72-65-71-208. Long Beach State was 14-under in the final round to jump four positions into second place while Kansas State was third and San Diego State and Eastern Michigan tied for fourth.

The Rainbow Wahine Invitational was the final event for the Hornets during the fall portion of their schedule. The team will next compete at the Collegiate Invitational at GCC in Guadalajara, Mexico on Jan. 29-30.
