ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The Sacramento State women's golf team began its season at the Branch Law Firm/McGuire Invitational on Monday at the UNM Championship Course. The Hornets, which are defending tournament champions, sit in sixth place, after the second round was halted due to lightning.

Sacramento State received three even-par rounds in the morning led by sophomore
Sophia Lee and freshman
Emilia Schneider.
Ashley Koga also finished even while competing as an individual. Lee returned to her steady form as she had a birdie on the par-4 10
th and a bogey on the par-4 sixth as her only non-pars in the round. Schneider had three birdies and three bogeys over her first nine holes to remain even. Once on the front side of the course, she bogeyed the par-5 first and birdied the par-4 fifth.

Darla May Dela Torre ranked third on the third at 2-over par in the first round. Dela Torre was 3-over through her first seven holes but finished with 10 pars and a birdie on the par-4 sixth over her final 11 holes. The final team score in the morning belonged to
Tova Hatton at 3-over.

Koga parred her first five holes before bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2 . She remained 2-over through 15 holes after a birdie on the par-4 fifth and a bogey on No. 10. The senior finished the round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 to get to even.

The second round was stopped with golfers needing between two and four holes left to complete their rounds. Lee stands at 1-under and is tied for ninth place overall. Dela Torre is 1-over in the round while Hatton is 3-over. Koga remains even with four holes remaining and is alone in 14
th place.

UNLV and Pepperdine are tied for the team lead at 7-under par with New Mexico one stroke back of the pair. Montana State (8-over) and UTEP (9-over) complete the top five with the Hornets sixth at 12-over.

Play will begin on Tuesday with the completion of the second round. The teams will then turn immediately to the third round.
