MEN’S SOCCER SHUT OUT IN SOCAL FINALE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After coming back from down two goals in the second half in its draw at CSUN on Wednesday, the Sacramento State men's soccer team couldn't muster the same magic on Saturday night at UC Riverside as the host Highlanders cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Hornets.

Sacramento State's offense did well to make the adjustments in the second half to try and create chances, attempting seven of its eight shots in the second 45 and putting four shots on frame, but none were able to dent the back of the net.

Meanwhile the Highlanders' offense clicked early, scoring 90 seconds apart in the 18th and 19th minutes for a 2-0 lead at the break, then capping the scoring with a third goal in the 55th minute for the final tally.

Freshman Allbranly Gue led all Hornets with three shot attempts on the night, putting a pair on frame, while junior Donovan Sessoms added a pair of shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Andres Rosales, who had six saves in the second half alone against the Matadors on Wednesday, finished with five more stops against UCR.

Now at the midway point of the Big West Conference season, Sacramento State continues league play with a pair at home next week, welcoming Cal Poly on Wednesday (Oct. 15) before hosting UC Irvine on Saturday (Oct. 18). Both matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. starts.
