GUE’S GOAL HELPS MEN’S SOCCER FORGE 1-1 DRAW

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Freshman Allbranly Gue scored his second goal of the season early in the first half to stake Sacramento State to the early lead and the defense answered Cal Poly's tying goal by standing strong for the final 76 minutes en route to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.

Sacramento State was the early aggressor, forcing Cal Poly keeper Nicky McCune into a pair of saves before Gue's strike in the 12th minute put the Hornets on top. Junior Donovan Sessoms settled a ball on the right side of the box before taking a touch to his left to create space.

His pass then skidded across the top of the 18 to a waiting Gue, who poked a pass between the legs of his defender then caught McCune leaning the other way with a right-footed shot to the lower left corner and a 1-0 lead.

Gue joined teammate Nick Strangio as multi-goal scorers for the Hornets this season while Sessoms tallied his team-high third assist of the season.

Cal Poly wasted little time in finding the equalizer just under three minutes later as a pass was flicked on for Colin Pearce at the top left corner of the box. Pearce took a touch then unleashed a shot back across the goal that found the upper left-hand corner to tie the contest at one apiece.

With the momentum, the Mustangs continued to press for the go-ahead goal, but came up empty. Cal Poly kissed one off the crossbar in the 27th minute and had a penalty kick wiped away after a review in the 39th minute.

Goalkeeper Andres Rosales then came up huge after that, using all 6-foot-6 of his frame to tip away a shot attempt to the left post in the 41st minute, sending the teams to the locker room tied at the break.

Rosales kept the Mustangs at bay with three saves in a yellow card marred second half, while another Cal Poly goal was taken off the board in the minutes later due to an offside call.

In the 73rd minute, it was the Hornets' chance to press for the go-ahead score as Sessoms sent a line drive pass across the top of the six to a sliding Eli Reyenveld, but McCune made the save at point-blank range to keep the match level.

Sacramento State closes out the week on Saturday (Oct. 18) by hosting UC Irvine at 3 p.m.
