DUGGER LEADS MEN'S GOLF IN FIRST DAY OF RAM MASTERS

The graduate student is tied for fifth place, the Hornets are eighth through two rounds

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Luke Dugger is tied for fifth place in the individual standings and the Sacramento State men's golf team is eighth out of 16 teams following the first two rounds of the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday at Fort Collins Country Club.

Dugger played a bogey-free first round to finish at 66 (4-under). He started on the 14th hole and carded seven consecutive pars before a birdie on the par-4 third. Following three more pars, he eagled No. 7 and birdied the eighth before ending his round with four more pars.

Smith began the first round with a bogey on No. 13 but quickly moved under par following birdies on Nos. 15 and 16. A bogey on the 17th kept him even until a double-bogey on the par-3 fifth. Smith returned to even with birdies on Nos. 6 and 8 but played his final four holes at 1-over to finish with a 71.

The team also counted 2-over par rounds of 72 from Zach Mate and Max Thomas in the first round. Mate had three birdies and five bogeys while Thomas had four birdies and six bogeys.

Dugger had two bogeys over his first four holes of the second round and eventually stood at 3-over through 11 holes. His first birdie of the round came on the par-3 ninth and he finished with three pars and a birdie on No. 13. Overall he is tied for fifth place at 66-71-137 and is seven strokes off the lead of Valparaiso's Anthony Delisanti who shot 67-73-130 to stand at 10-under par.

Mate was even in the second round and is tied for 35th at 72-70-142. He was 1-over through his first nine holes but rallied behind birdies on Nos. 6 and 7. After five pars, he bogeyed No. 13 to finish the round even.

Thomas finished 1-under in the afternoon round behind four birdies and three bogeys. He started the round by bogeying his first and third holes and birdying his second and fourth to remain even. The freshman moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-3 fifth and stayed there until a bogey on the par-4 10th. However, like Dugger, he ended his round with a birdie on No. 13 to get to 1-under and is tied for 22nd place.

Smith hovered between 1-over and 1-under for his first 15 holes but had bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 to take him to 1-over in the round. His total of 71-71-142 has him tied for 35th place.

Utah Tech holds a four-stroke lead in the team standings and finished the first day at 13-under par. The Trailblazers are followed by Colorado and Colorado State which are tied for second at 9-under. Utah Valley, Long Beach State and Idaho are tied for fourth at 3-under.
