BEACH VOLLEYBALL BEGINS BIG WEST TOURNAMENT THURSDAY IN LONG BEACH

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State will be the No. 7 seed for the Big West Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament this week in Long Beach. The Hornets open the tournament Thursday against No. 2 seed (and ranked 7th nationally) Long Beach State at 12 p.m.

The conference's seven teams will compete in the double-elimination tournament to determine the Big West champion.

9:30 am - Match 1 - #3 Hawai'i v. #6 Cal State Bakersfield (Pool A)
10:45 am - Match 2 - #1 Cal Poly v. #5 CSUN (Pool B)
12:00 pm - Match 3 - #2 Long Beach State v. #7 Sacramento State (Pool A)
1:15 pm - Match 4 - #4 UC Davis v. #5 CSUN (Pool B)
2:30 pm - Match 5 - Match 1 loser v. Match 3 Loser (Pool A)
3:45 pm - Match 6 - Match 1 Winner v. Match 3 Winner (Pool A)
5:00 pm - Match 7 - #1 Cal Poly v. #4 UC Davis (Pool B)

Friday
8:30 am - Match 8 - Pool A Second Seed v. Pool B Third Seed
9:45 am - Match 9 - Pool B Second Seed v. Pool A Third Seed
11:00 am - Match 10 - Pool B First Seed v. Match 8 Winner
12:15 pm - Match 11 - Pool A First Seed v. Match 9 Winner
2:15 pm - Match 12 - Match 10 Winner v. Match 11 Winner

The Big West currently boasts three nationally ranked teams, comprised of fifth-ranked Cal Poly, seventh-ranked Long Beach State, and 11th-ranked Hawai'i. The tournament is being played at the KLAC Beach Volleyball Complex on the Long Beach City College campus.

The winner of the Big West Tournament receives an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship which takes place May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala. A Big West-sponsored sport since 2016, three teams have won the title - Long Beach State (2023), Cal Poly (2019-22) and Hawai'i (2016-18).

Live stats will be offered for all matches.

Sacramento State finished the regular season with a 7-19 record. Four of those wins came at neutral sites where the team was 4-5.
