STANFORD, Calif. -- Sacramento State pushed three matches into the third set, but ultimately fell at 17th-ranked Stanford, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Center.
The Hornets fell to 5-3, and were playing the third leg of a four-match road trip. Stanford, which has three ranked singles players on its roster, improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 at home.
Though the final score was 4-0, Sacramento State had three players in the third set against Cardinal players when the match was halted after Stanford had the necessary four points for victory.
That includes
Jan Silva at No. 3, who was winning his matchup, 6-3, 3-6, 3-2 against 92nd-ranked Kyle Kang when his match was stopped.
Adam Chodur (No. 4) and
Jiri Novak (No. 5) were also in third sets when Stanford clinched.
The Cardinal won the doubles point, but

Mate Voros was winning their match at No. 1 when doubles play was halted. The tandem had just entered a tiebreaker, and was leading 1-0 in that breaker.
For Sacramento State, Keki (No. 1), Voros (No. 2) and
Rudolfs Aksenoks (No. 6) each lost their singles matches.
The Hornets do not play again until Feb. 24 when they travel to Stockton for a 2 p.m. matchup at Pacific.
