MEN’S HOOPS SHOOTS SCHOOL-RECORD 69% FROM FIELD IN 98-47 WIN OVER STANISLAUS STATE

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State never trailed, and shot 69% (35-for-51) from the field while cruising to a 98-47 victory over Stanislaus State on Sunday afternoon at the Nest.

The field goal percentage is the new Hornet Div. I-era program record, originally set in this year's season opening win vs. Cal Maritime. In that game, the Hornets shot 65%. This afternoon, Sacramento State shot 70% (16-23) in the first half, 68% (19-28) in the second half, and finished at 54% (13-24) from the 3-point line. That was the second highest 3-point percentage of the season.

The Hornets scored the game's first four points, and led by double figures the final 31:15 of the contest. Sacramento State had 50 points at halftime, and outscored the Warriors in the second half by a wide margin (48-17). Seven different Hornets connected on 3-pointers (including 5-for-6 from Bailey Nunn), the Hornets had 23 assists on 35 made buckets, and five players scored in double digits.

The win allowed Sacramento State to kick off its season-long five-game homestand in victorious fashion. Beginning today, the Hornets do not leave Sacramento for nearly a month. The team's second game of the homestand takes place Dec. 30 vs. Bethesda before opening Big Sky Conference play on Jan. 4 vs. Portland State.

Stanislaus State, a Div. II team from Turlock, Calif., is 5-5. The Warriors have played three Div. I teams this season (Saint Mary's and San Francisco are the others), and recently fell to USF by a 68-52 margin. The Warriors and Hornets were playing for the second time in three years, as Sacramento State beat Stanislaus, 72-51, during the 2022-23 season.

The Hornets had 42 points in the paint, many of which from Jacob Holt who produced his fourth 20-point game of the season. The senior had a game-high 23 on 8-10 FG and 6-7 FT. He also added five rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Chudi Dioramma secured the Hornets' first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds on 6-8 FG.

Nunn, who was lethal from the arc this afternoon, had a career-best 18 points (6-7 FG, 5-6 3FG) to go with four assists and a pair of steals. Emil Skytta had a season-high 12 points to go with four assists and game-best three steals, and Lachlan Brewer dropped 10 points (2-3 3FG) with three rebounds and three assists. Skytta was also a +45 in 33 minutes.

Bowyn Beatty had eight points and six rebounds, Julian Vaughns seven points, six rebounds, four assists and zero turnovers, and EJ Neal added six points (2-3 3FG) and three assists. The Hornets had just nine turnovers, and scored 19 points off Stanislaus miscues.

The Hornets will get some time off for Christmas, before returning on Monday, Dec. 30, vs. Bethesda. Tip at the Nest is set for 1 p.m. That is the team's only game between now and Jan. 4.
