MEN’S BASKETBALL DOMINATES BETHESDA IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE TUNEUP

SACRAMENTO -- Four Hornets scored in double figures, led by Jacob Holt's 21 points and 10 rebounds, as Sacramento State defeated Bethesda, 78-38, on Monday afternoon at the Nest.

After Bethesda scored the first two points of the game, Sacramento State responded with a 22-3 run, and cruised from there. During the 22-3 spurt, the Hornets converted each of their first four 3-pointers, held Bethesda scoreless for over six minutes, and took a 22-5 lead with 10:28 to play. The Hornets led, 35-16, at halftime, and the team's 40-point margin of victory was also the largest lead of the contest.

Today marked the Hornets' final non-conference game of the regular season. Sacramento State (4-9) will begin Big Sky Conference play this Saturday vs. Portland State at 1 p.m. The Hornets are currently 2-0 on their season-long five game homestand, and each of the team's first three conference games will come in the Nest. That includes next week vs. both Idaho and Eastern Washington.

Bethesda is a member of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) and hails from Anaheim, Calif. Today marked the third time the Hornets have played the Lion Angels (all wins), including a 100-45 victory in the Nest on Dec. 21 of last year.

The Hornets held a large rebounding advantage (48-27), turned 13 offensive boards into 13 second chance points, and outscored the Lion Angels, 25-6, in points off miscues. Sacramento State shot 45% (28-62) from the field, and buried 13 3-pointers (13-for-39) while Bethesda shot just 30% (16-53), and 3-of-17 from distance.

Holt led the team in scoring for the seventh straight game (nine of the last 10) after finishing with his first double-double of the season. The senior had 21 points (7-9 FG, 3-5 3FG, 4-6 FT) to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots while finishing with a +27 plus/minus in 24 minutes. His points, rebounds and blocked shots were all game highs. Holt is now averaging 16.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field and 39% from 3PT.

Three other Sacramento State players scored in double figures, including Bowyn Beatty's 11 points and nine rebounds (five offensive), Lachlan Brewer's 11 points (3-4 3FG) and Bailey Nunn's 11 points (3-8 3FG). The Hornets used nine players in today's game, and all nine cracked the scoring column. Emil Skytta stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals.

Julian Vaughns had six points and three rebounds, Michael Wilson five points and six rebounds, and Chudi Dioramma tacked on two points and six boards.

The Hornets' next three games will all come at home against Big Sky foes Portland State (Jan. 4 at 1 p.m.), Idaho (Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.) and Eastern Washington (Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.).

Sacramento State will, once again, play the traditional Thursday/Saturday matchups during conference play. All Thursday home games will begin at 7 p.m., and all Saturday home games will begin at 1 p.m.
